Site News & Updates for 2020

This page will be used to record any major changes to this site and link to any subsequent press releases. We are always posting new blogs and updating existing pages, which will not get reported on this news page. However keep coming back and hopefully there will be new content every time you do. If you would like us to produce a blog, or other content, on a particular subject please let us know via the contact form.

2020 Updates

Well, we got to the end of 2020, hopefully 2021 will be better for everyone. We have just published our review of 2020, which by all standards has left out a lot of what happened during the year since so much happened. 2021 will see a few new features added to the site, but in the meantime please enjoy what is up here and we also wish you a hack free 2021.

Not much to report this month as we have been taking a break. However, we have been investigating new features that will be coming in the future. Sometimes you have to step back to move forward. More on this in 2021.

Newsletters: One change of note this month is the retirement of the Monthly Newsletters. We tried to make this a unique feature on the site, but it has ended up with recycling existing blogs and posts we made via our Twitter Account. We felt this did not add value and also took a lot of time to compile. We will look to return this feature in the future once we have found a unique message this can convey. The newsletters we have published will remain on our blogs pages. Regarding the Newsletter mailing list, we will be contacting those subscribers separately to tell them what is happening and give them the option to follow our main blog, or unsubscribe fully.

Book Reviews: We introduced this feature in September and have now moved them to our blogs section behind the scenes to allow us to maintain the listings easier. It shouldn’t make much change to how you access the feature. We have also added a few additional interesting books.

During October we have not blogged much due to a number of factors largely outside of our control. However, we are looking to restart monthly blogs in the near future.

We are keeping our Twitter feed updated with the latest news stories.

All the usual updates on our blogs and guidance sections.

We have also added some new sections to our guidance pages:

  • Book Reviews – this is where we intend to cover a lot of the printed material we read on a regular basis
  • Guidance Categories – This is a categorisation of our extensive back catalogue of blog posts on several subjects in Cyber Security and Privacy
  • Guidance page slightly reformatted
  • The Guidance Menu has also been changed to add direct links to the individual guidance pages.

We have also updated our homepage to give it a fresh look. It now contains selected listings from our guidance pages, which we will rotate on a regular basis.

All the usual updates on our blogs and guidance sections. This also includes:

  • Several Guidance pages have been updated:
    • Changed the headline picture for our guidance section
    • Extensive updates to our Glossary of Terms – this is an ongoing process, but this is a major back-fill from various sources as well as from our blogs
    • Added a new Guidance category on Zero Trust concepts (several blogs in preparation)
    • Re-branded our Twitter feed as a Threat Intelligence source
  • Removed the search function from the main menu as this is covered by other means.

All the usual updates on our blogs and guidance sections. We have also:

  • Added monthly newsletters via Mail Chimp – this is experimental and will provide additional monthly news and stories from our Twitter Feed.
  • Added a number of updates to our glossaries
    • Broken up the Glossary of Terms in to 4 alphabetic segments with individual jump lists (the original page was getting too big to download and maintain)
    • We have also completed the first phase of providing links to other sections in the glossary to aid the lookup of additional and related terms
  • Published a list of blogs we are working on for the next half of 2020 and added it to our site menu under News.

We now use MalChimp for direct marketing and to distribute newsletters. Their security policy and privacy policy is therefore absorbed into our own.

Over the coming months, we are working on improving the navigation and content on our site.

The June update is turning out to be a major upgrade as we are making a number of changes to streamline our website to make it easier to navigate as well as easier for us to maintain. The changes we have made this month are:

  • Removed Latest Blogs Page
  • Removed the Resources Page
  • Rewrote the Guidance pages to act as the go-to place for all resources and guidance which now replaces the Resources Page
  • Rewrote the site homepage
  • Changed the colour pallet a little to brighten things up
  • Changed the header picture on the site and on our twitter feed
  • Added sidebar to all blog pages
  • Added sidebar to the News and Updates page
  • Added Guidance menu to the sidebar
  • Added site keyword search to the footer and added site search page on main menu bar
  • Added an alphabetic jump list to the abbreviations glossary and Terms Glossary

If any of your browser bookmarks stop working, please reset your bookmark by finding the changed page on the site possibly using our new search feature.

Some ‘under the bonnet’ changes to the navigation of the site. If any bookmarks stop working, please reset your bookmark by finding the changed page on the site.

All the usual updates on our blogs and guidance sections.

We have taken a short break during April to recharge our batteries, so the number of blogs we posted has been limited.

All the usual updates on our blogs and guidance sections.

New section created to document ‘What I Use‘ as guidance for your personal hardware, software and services selection. This section has started with a single post, but will be expanded in the coming months.

All the usual updates on our blogs and guidance sections including:

  • Removed the eBooks option from the Resources menu and subsequent pages
  • Updates to our copyright page
  • Updates to our contact page to include testimonials and a request to allow permission to use your comments on our website
  • Glossary Updates.

The request to post your comments on our website is optional and is in no way a demand that you give permission. If you subsequently change your mind you can contact us to have the comments taken down.

It is taking longer than we anticipated to compile the relevant content and arrange for publishing for the eBooks feature. As our thinking has changed significantly since we posted our ‘beta’ of this feature in November 2019, we thought it was better to temporarily remove the feature. This feature will be coming back when it is ready. If you have downloaded the initial eBook, please let us know what you thought of it by using our contact form.

We have also introduced changes as follows:

  • Added our Twitter timeline to the side bar of the Site News & Updates page.
  • Introduced the Site News Archive page off our Site News and Updates page (see bottom of this page for links), which is where you will see all the updates for previous years.
  • A new Guidance section on Combating Social Engineering.
  • Re-organized our ‘About the Site‘ menu and pages to introduce a new Policies page that will group together a list of the policies that govern the use and production of this site.
  • Each policy now states the date it was last updated.
